Silver and silk - tension series
Childhood activities of sewing, knitting and crocheting have resulted in a passion for making and working directly with materials. These early creative activities feed into this body of work. Tension series consists of one-of-a-kind brooches and earrings that rely on the tension of the silk cord to hold the shape. Sewing and knotting oxidised silver tube, transforming the materials into elegant, faceted pieces that embody a rare mixture of precision, timelessness and a strong sculptural aesthetic. This body of work sees the introduction of colour using oxidised silver and brightly coloured silk cord rekindling a strong childhood memory and love of making with thread.
